The Graduates
Project Description
This piece was created for a large fundraising event supporting the CIA Officers Memorial Foundation and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Through scholarships, these foundations support the children of special forces service members who were killed in action.
This video served as the emotional centerpiece of the event and played before scholarship recipients who had graduated were introduced and brough on stage.
One unique challenge of video was the quick turnaround time; the students arrived in the morning, so everything needed to be filmed and edited on-site for presentation that same evening. With good planning and smart production choices that goal was achieved.
The decision to film against a stark black backdrop was two fold. First, the location available to film didn't have any relationship to the stories they were telling, and second, by eliminating all other visuals the viewer could better focus on the emotional stories these students were telling.
